It’s time to go Irish and dress up in your best green attire. South Florida is ready to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! Here’s a quick round up of what you can do and where you can go to make that day feel like you’ve just found a pot of gold.
Kick the day off by joining the Leprechaun Leap in Fort Lauderdale. It’s a family oriented walk-slash-run with the Running Leprechauns. Tag your kids along with you and enjoy the St. Patrick’s Day Parade that goes west along Las Olas Boulevard from S.E. 6th Avenue to Riverfront. Expect various highlights like marching bands, stilt walkers, Irish dancers, celebrities and more. Keep your eyes open and look out for Kid’s Zone where your kids can enjoy bouncing horses, pony rides and balloon artists. There’s always something in store for the whole family.
By noon and the sun gets too hot, you can visit the Miami Children’s Museum where, obviously, there will be a sponsored St. Patrick’s Day-themed arts and crafts for kids. Check out venues that offer shamrock scavenger hunt, much like Easter egg hunting, and you might just be lucky. For more fun, dress up like a leprechaun or simply wear green and maybe–just maybe–you can get a special surprise.
In the late afternoon, don’t forget to get a baby sitter, as the shenanigans are still happening. There’s still a lot of time to party. Restaurants, diners, clubs and bars will definitely offer something Irish (or with a touch of it). On second thought, forget about dining inside the restaurant and search for open café’s and bars where you can enjoy the warm afternoon sun.
At night, things will just get better—live entertainment, music, rock bands and celebrities. It’s a party all night charade until you actually see leprechauns with glints in their eyes hiding behind bushes.
But if you do maybe you just had too many green beers….
Have a Safe and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
